And They Are Called The Elite Class...LOL!!!

Okay, so the literacy rate in India has increased immensely over the years and we now live in a civilized society and a developing country. Of course, we have seen development happen and the face of the society has undoubtedly undergone a change. We are said to be the biggest democracy in the world; elections happen every 5 years and we are administered by a new set of people every time. ‘Administration’ or, I can say, the ‘so-called administration’ as the people whom we refer to as our elite administrators are actually the dumbest people on the earth. Yeah, they may be educated and I am not denying the fact, but the education does not seem to be reflecting from their thoughts or the overtly foolish statements they make!

Ever since the popular Delhi rape case, we have been witnessing a series of foolish statements and comments coming out from people who are supposed to be our administrators. Of course, I am talking about the recent shocker by Mulayam Singh Yadav that has now become the talk of social media and most news channels. The statement that it is impossible for four men to rape a single woman simply makes you wonder on how you are to react on the foolishness of it. And, of course, this is not the first time. There was a statement made by this ‘great’ man last year that rape accused don’t deserve to be hanged as boys sometimes commit mistakes. The level of immorality and foolishness of the statement surely makes one think on whether one must express their anguish or not comment on it at all.

And, of course, we do not have one such man in our society. There are such well educated fools who have made disgusting statements in the past, especially following the popular rape case of December 16 in Delhi. For all those who have watched the documentary ‘India’s Daughter’ made by Leslee Udwin, I don’t need to tell you which educated fool I am talking about. The lawyer representing the accused in the case, Mr. A. P. Singh, had made shocking comments in the documentary and also in his interview following the hearing of the case. Asserting that the girl alone was responsible for what happened with her, this ‘highly educated’ man had also commented that banning Valentine Day celebration can help in reducing incidents such as rapes in the country.

And, we say these are our civilized and elite administrators; they administer the State and also guard the Law. LOL! They show how elite and educated they are through their statements, isn’t it?

Where has humanity lost away?

I was at office when I casually opened my Facebook account as I had taken a small break from work to get refreshed. And I was scrolling down the news feed, I came across a video that left me shaken, something that I could really not digest and for hours together the video ran into my mind, making me weaker and leaving me scared. Guys, we live in a city where life is unpredictable! Thousands die here out of accidents, some fall off running trains, some are attacked, some fall prey to calamities and terrorism and some are raped, beaten and a lot more. Yes, the Delhi rape case has proven how worse death can be and how brutal crimes can be in today's world. The case was a historical one; the one that shook the nation and forced people to become conscious about their rights. This was the case that prompted people to protest widely at all levels and the one that forced the government to amend the law and make them stricter than ever! But what has changed despite the national awakening and despite the shaking incident took place?

After the Delhi Rape Case, a few days ahead of the incident, the male friend of the Delhi braveheart, who was accompanying her when the brutal crime took place, had narrated the entire incident on TV. In his long interview, the guy had explained how they were brutally and mercilessly thrown away on the road, without clothes, on the cold December night, bleeding profusely. When the guy had tried to stop the passersby and the vehicles on the road to seek help for himself and his badly injured friend, not a single car waited, nor a single bike stopped! Although every vehicle on the road slowed down to watch the pathetic condition of the duo, no one offered help or showed mercy when asked for it. It sounds really shocking and the interview was indeed a hair-raising experience to hear! What if you could have witnessed the situation live? This is what I experienced in the video that I happened to see last evening!

The video was shared on Facebook by one of my friends. The video is a dramatic recreation of the brutal Delhi scene of December 16 where an actor, disguised as a badly injured guy, is asking for help from passing vehicles. The video shows how much the mentality of people has changed after such a big incident and how many people seek to offer help! The fact is, we Indians, are so busy in our own life and are so afraid to help people who really need it that we often tend to kill our inner voice and simply pass by and move ahead. the video is a must watch for every Indian and I am sure each one of you would be ashamed on how people react to such situations. Although many people would like and comment on your post if you share the video publicly on Facebook, how many of them would actually not behave in a manner that the video depicts?

After watching the video, I recalled an incident of my own life. I was out at my grand mother's place once and had gone to the market to buy some essentials. This is when I was passing through a hospital and an accident had happened. An old man had been knocked off by some vehicle and was bleeding profusely. A huge crowd had gathered, people stood and watched but no one dared touch him or take him to the hospital although the man lay just at the entrance of the hospital. People waited for quite a few minutes and I was shocked to see how rude people can be sometimes. After sometime, a passing auto driver stopped and offered help, he helped the man get up and took him inside the hospital after which the crowd dispersed off. After watching this, there's only one question I can ask, is there humanity anywhere in the world? This can happen to anyone, even to us or our loved ones and how would we feel if people refuse to offer help? No matter how risky it is to help someone, never refuse or ignore to help anyone who is truly in need, tomorrow you might be in the same situation!

16 December....An year later!

16 December 2012! Who wouldn't remember this date? A day of terror, a day that shook every Indian, a day that led to an uprising all over the country, a day that raised questions over women's security! It is 16 December yet again! Its past an year that the country witnessed one of the most horrendous crimes in its history- the rape of a young girl on a moving bus in the national capital. One year after witnessing the terrific incident, an year after fighting for the security of women, how safe are we today? Is there anyone to answer this?

Last year, India witnessed a ghastly crime, one of its nature, that left every India awestruck. After holding candle marches and protests, after having sentenced the criminals to death penalty, India still today fights to protect its women from the horrible intentions of some males. After the Delhi Rape Case, although protests were held in every part of the world, what did really change? Although the law relating to rape, molestation, etc changed, do women in India feel safe today? I had previously written an article over this (http://your-speak.blogspot.in/2013/12/law-has-changed-but-how-many-changes.html) where I had attempted to analyse the after effects of the Delhi case and the subsequent changes in law. For those who have read the article, you would surely know that the number of crimes against women, particularly molestation and rapes, showed a slanting upward  graph. So what lessons have we taken from the deadly incident an year ago? Nothing? Even after an innocent girl lost her life?

When the question of security of women is raised, we haven't been successful in making the world a better place for girls. There are so many women who commute with fear everyday, late night, because they work in shifts or they have to support their family! Haven't they got the right to enjoy a secure life? Even Mumbai, that was once considered as the safest city for women in India, has had a record of crimes in the last year. Every day I commute, I see men staring, some even passing comments, some singing, whistling and what not! And every girl has witnessed this at some point in life, however, many of us simply ignore because that's the best way to deal with it! And then people say girls are at fault, their dressing is blamed ! Why don't we simply attempt to teach our sons and brothers to respect women instead?

Today, on 16 December 2013, I have written this blog to salute the spirit of the young braveheart who fought for life despite being completely destroyed. Yes, we can never imagine the ordeal she went through, so just a salute to her spirit, will power and bravery! If every girl in India shows this spirit and raises voice over even the smallest of crimes, we would definitely be able to make our country a better place, if not the best!
